Privacy
What we keep, where, and why.
Platepath is designed to need as little about you as possible. Most of what you enter never leaves your device. Here is exactly what does, in plain language.
On your device
Planner answers, saved places, budget inputs and your directory filters are kept in this browser.
If you make an account
Your planner preferences and saved places sync to our database so you can open them on another device.
If you send us something
Community reports and contact messages go to our server, so someone can act on them.
Never
No ads, no analytics trackers, no selling data. We never ask about income, immigration status, SIN or banking.
What stays on your device
When you use the planner, the budget planner or the directory, your answers are saved in this browser's local storage: your rough location, household size, budget, how you get around, your kitchen, food needs, the places you saved to My Plan, any edits to your plan, and your filters. Without an account, none of this is sent to us.
It stays until you remove it. The Clear My Plan button in the footer deletes it from this device, and so does clearing your browser data. On a shared computer, use Clear My Plan when you're done.
If you use share on a plan, the stops are written into the link itself. Whoever you send the link to can see them; we don't store a copy.
Optional accounts
You can use every part of Platepath without an account. If you create one, we store your email address and the name you chose so you can sign in, plus two things so they follow you between devices: your planner preferences and your saved places.
Accounts are run on Supabase, our database and sign-in provider. Your records are protected so that only you can read or change them. Signing out removes your plan from the device you are on. Deleting your account from the account page removes your stored data permanently.
Reports and contact messages
When you report that a listing is wrong, or send a message through the contact form, it is sent to Platepath's server and stored in our database so a moderator, and for reports the organisation that runs the listing, can act on it. Contact messages may also be forwarded to our inbox by an email delivery service. Only include contact details if you want a reply.
If the server isn't set up to receive them (for example, on a preview copy of the site), the form says so plainly and keeps your report or message on this device instead. It never pretends to have sent something it didn't.
IP addresses and abuse protection
Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) receives your IP address when you load a page and may keep it in its server logs for a short time. We use the address to limit how often reports and messages can be sent, which stops spam and abuse.
With reports and messages we store only a one-way, salted hash of the address, never the address itself. It is used to spot repeated abuse, not to identify you.
No trackers, no third-party requests
There are no advertising or analytics trackers on Platepath. The code names a few events (such as “plan created”) so a future, consent-based setup would have a stable vocabulary, but today nothing is sent anywhere. If that ever changes, this page will change first, and questionnaire answers such as budget, household, dietary needs or location would never be attached to an event without your explicit consent.
Photographs and fonts are served from our own domain. The demo map is drawn by the site itself and makes no requests to a third-party map tile service. If real listings are added later, their maps would load street tiles from OpenStreetMap, and this page would say so first.
Location
Your location is only used to find nearby options and estimate travel time. A neighbourhood or a nearby intersection is enough; you never need a home address. If you choose “use my location”, your browser asks first, and the result is kept on your device like your other answers.
What we never ask
We never ask for your income, immigration status, Social Insurance Number or banking information. None of it is needed to plan food, so there is no field for it anywhere on the site.
Demo data
Every organisation listed in this prototype is fictional. No real organisation's information is stored or displayed, and demo listings are hidden from search engines.
